Open Innovation Monitor

Innovation management is often carried out internally and leads not to the desired success. The concept of open innovation shows that there is a better approach. The later incorporates methods and instruments that lead to an opening of innovation processes by means of using specific methods and instruments to exploit external innovation sources.

But how is the status quo concerning the use of open innovation instruments? What sources are used by companies to create new ideas and products? And what factors influence the implementation of open innovation strategies?

The "Open-Innovation-Monitor 2012" is a regular survey among more than 200 German-speaking executives about the use of the open innovation methodology and the tools within the Open Innovation process. The survey was conducted by the Innovation Society, St.Gallen and the University of Applied Sciences, St.Gallen.

The "Open Innovation Monitor" provides up-to-date evidence to relevant questions out of innovation management. Furthermore, the study shows which established and new innovation tools are used in practice today and in the future.

  • Status quo survey: What basic conditions and factors influence the implementation of open innovation strategies?
  • Foresight instrument: Which novel tools and methods (e.g. crowdsourcing) could determine innovation management in the future?
  • Food for thought and reference book: Which instruments and sources are appropriate to vitalise my product development?
