The 9th International Nano-Authorities-Dialogue took place on June 10 and 11, 2015, at the invitation of the Agency of Environment of the principality of Liechtenstein. More than 50 representatives of ministries, agencies, research institutes and companies from Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein addressed the topic \"governance and regulation of nanomaterials\". Diverse introductory presentations inspired discussions about the requirements and the need for future regulation of nanomaterials from different perspectives. The expectations of the industry towards regulatory authorities were identified and measures for a common proceeding for a sustainable development of nanotechnologies were discussed. The Nano-Authorities-Dialogue takes place on a rotational basis in the German speaking <\/em><\/p>\n

countries and is organised by The Innovation Society, St.Gallen. <\/em><\/p>\n

On the occasion of the nanotechnology liability forum in Cologne, held on the 17th of March, the reinsurance group Gen Re and the Innovation Society, St. Gallen presented a newly developed risk monitoring system of synthetic nanomaterials (NM). The monitoring system is intended to enable the sustainable insurability of nanotechnologies. These possess an enormous growth potential. At the same time major uncertainties concerning potential risks exist for certain nanomaterials.<\/p>\n

The \u2018Nanorama Lab\u2019, an interactive online tool on safe handling of nanomaterials, is now available to the public on http:\/\/nano.dguv.de\/nanorama\/bgrci\/ (currently only available in German). The \u2018Nanorama Lab\u2019 offers in-depth insights into the safe handling of nanomaterials and installations used to manufacture or process nanomaterials in laboratories. Complementary to hazard evaluation assessments, it enables users to assess the occupational exposure to nanomaterials and to identify necessary protective measures when handling said materials in laboratories.<\/p>\n

The German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV) has recently launched the Nano-Platform \u201cSafe handling of Nanomaterials\u201d. The Innovation Society, a St. Gallen-based Swiss start-up, has developed the platform, which is the world\u2019s first interactive nano-platform on occupational health and safety. The \u201cNanorama Construction\u201d is the first module available on the platform at http:\/\/nano.dguv.de\/nanorama\/bgbau\/. The \u201cNanorama Construction\u201d offers in-depth insights into the use and applications of nanomaterials in the construction industry.<\/p>\n

The 7th<\/sup>\u00a0International Nano-Authorities Dialogue with Governance officials from Austria, Germany, Liechtenstein and Switzerland took place on 14th<\/sup>\u00a0\u00a0and 15th<\/sup>\u00a0of May in Vienna. The Austrian life ministry (Lebensministerium) invited representatives of public authorities dealing with regulatory issues of nanotechnology in health, environment and occupational safety areas. The participants from German-speaking countries exchanged views over the current state of the nano regulation and outlined\u00a0 an interim state of the present regulation. On the basis of existing and planned nano regulations in health, environment, occupational safety and product regulation the audience discussed the challenges and future developments of existing regulations and governance models on European and global level. The annual Nano Authorities Dialogue conference series is being organized on behalf of the authorities\u00a0 by the Innovation Society, St.Gallen since 2008.<\/p>\n

The Swiss Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN) invited representatives of public authorities dealing with regulatory issues of nanotechnology in health, environment or occupational safety areas.\u00a0The topic of the two-day conference was the communication of scientific data and public dialogue.\u00a0The participants discussed how scientific data and information could be transformed into relevant information for the public and involved stakeholders.\u00a0Besides this topic the participants discussed current developments in regulation, research and education on the national and international level.\u00a0The annual Nano Authorities Dialogue series is being organized and moderated by the Innovation Society, St. Gallen since 2008.<\/p>\n

It is addressed to teachers and students of vocational schools, secondary schools as well as\u00a0higher professional schools.
