Uri is the twelfth “SimplyNano 2” canton

Schools in Uri are now experimenting with nanotechnology. Ninety “SimplyNano 2” experiment kits were made available to the secondary schools. High-tech experiments are designed to get young people interested in technical professions. At the nano-experimentation course, the Director of Education of Uri was also inspired by the “Nanos”.

Promoting new technologies and young professionals

On June 19, the introduction for teachers took place at Dätwyler AG in Altdorf. Reto Burkart, Site Manager of Dätwyler AG, began by briefly introducing the company and the various apprenticeships that are offered at Dätwyler. The 22 teachers then had the opportunity to carry out the nano-experiments themselves and test the new learning medium in practice. The Director of Education and Culture of the Canton of Uri, Cantonal Councillor Georg Simmen, was also infected by the fascination for the small particles during his visit. “It is important that children and young people familiarize themselves with new technologies at school,” he said. At the same time, it is right for schools and companies to network so that interested young people can gain valuable insights into the world of business and the economy, for its part, can find good young talent. The SimplyNano 2 project now also acts as such a link in Uri.

In use throughout German-speaking Switzerland by 2025

“SimplyNano 2” is a nationwide project. The Canton of Uri is already the twelfth canton in which the learning medium is made available to schools. The other cantons of Central Switzerland will follow in the fall. By the end of 2025, the experiment kits should be in use throughout German-speaking Switzerland. The project is free of charge for schools and is supported by over 40 partners in Central Switzerland, including the Dätwyler Foundation in the canton of Uri.
