9th International Nano-Authorities Dialogue "Governance and Regulation of Nanomaterials"

The 9th International Nano-Authorities-Dialogue took place on June 10 and 11, 2015, at the invitation of the Agency of Environment of the principality of Liechtenstein. More than 50 representatives of ministries, agencies, research institutes and companies from Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein addressed the topic "governance and regulation of nanomaterials". Diverse introductory presentations inspired discussions about the requirements and the need for future regulation of nanomaterials from different perspectives. The expectations of the industry towards regulatory authorities were identified and measures for a common proceeding for a sustainable development of nanotechnologies were discussed. The Nano-Authorities-Dialogue takes place on a rotational basis in the German speaking countries and is organised by The Innovation Society, St.Gallen.

New Monitoring System of Nano-Risks

On the occasion of the nanotechnology liability forum in Cologne, held on the 17th of March, the reinsurance group Gen Re and the Innovation Society, St. Gallen presented a newly developed risk monitoring system of synthetic nanomaterials (NM). The monitoring system is intended to enable the sustainable insurability of nanotechnologies. These possess an enormous growth potential. At the same time major uncertainties concerning potential risks exist for certain nanomaterials.

Interactive E-learning module ‘Nanorama Lab’ (German-language) launched

Description
The ‘Nanorama Lab’, an interactive online tool on safe handling of nanomaterials, is now available to the public on http://nano.dguv.de/nanorama/bgrci/ (currently only available in German). The ‘Nanorama Lab’ offers in-depth insights into the safe handling of nanomaterials and installations used to manufacture or process nanomaterials in laboratories. Complementary to hazard evaluation assessments, it enables users to assess the occupational exposure to nanomaterials and to identify necessary protective measures when handling said materials in laboratories.

At the invitation of the BMUB, delegates of ministries, authorities and research institutes met in Berlin on May 14 and 15 to discuss the topic "nanomaterials and the environment”. The International Nano-Authorities Dialogue is hold annually and takes place in one of the participating German-speaking countries. It is organized and moderated by the Innovation Society, St. Gallen. Its purpose is to exchange views on the latest developments in the field of nano-regulation.
