FramingNano Mapping Study on Nanotechnologies Regulation and Governance Released

A detailed study providing a picture of the recent development regarding regulation and governance of Nanoscience & Nanotechnologies in Europe and worldwide, identifying relevant N&N stakeholders organisations and making an assessment of these information has been published in January 2009 by the FP7 FramingNano project.

The report gives an insight on the international debate on risks and concerns related to nanotechnologies (EHS issues and ELSI), and provides an ample overview of the different regulatory approaches proposed or already developed to deal with these issues, in particular:

  • Government and regulatory agencies initatives and policies on nanotechnology regulation;
  • National/international bodies and authorities involved
  • Standardisation activities
  • Stakeholders’ voluntary measures

Finally, initiatives and positions on these issues of different kind of stakeholders (businesses, researchers, civil society organisations) are presented, reporting the position of more than 25 organisations and social groups worldwide. All stakeholders' are invited to participate in the debate on nanoregulation and governance. A questionnaire on these themes is available on the project website.

The report can be downloaded for free in our Media section.

The Delphi questionnaire and further information on the project are available at www.framingnano.eu.
