Model supports «SimplyNano 2 – Project»
As part of the SimplyNano 2 project in Thurgau, a further training course for secondary school teachers was held on 10 May 2023 at the Model company in Weinfelden. The teachers received an introduction to the SimplyNano2 learning media and had the opportunity to carry out nano experiments independently. On an impressive tour through the production halls of Model AG, the participants learned many exciting things about paper and cardboard production. There was also a stimulating exchange about the various apprenticeships at Model AG.
Model Group as a loyal project partner
Model Group already supported the SimplyNano 2 project in the Northwest Switzerland region as a Bronze Partner. Thanks to the broad support of the cantons, various partner companies and foundations, a total of 880 experimental kits were distributed free of charge to schools in the cantons of BL, BS and SO. In the current project in the canton of Thurgau, a total of 400 experimental kits are to be distributed. The project is financed by the Thurgau Lottery Fund and a broad sponsorship of companies, associations and foundations.
In the canton of Thurgau, too, Model Group supports the SimplyNano 2 project as a loyal silver partner. The second of a total of four introductory courses for secondary school teachers took place at the company headquarters in Weinfelden. After an exciting tour of the corrugated board production halls, those present were given an overview of the various apprenticeships at Model AG. In addition to the presentation of the various professions, the offer of information afternoons also met with broad interest among the teachers.
SimplyNano – Experiments with “Wow-effect”
The SimplyNano 2 project aims to promote enthusiasm for STEM subjects among young people in the upper school. The SimplyNano 2 cases contain materials and documentation with which the pupils can carry out exciting experiments on nanotechnology and experience it as an interdisciplinary everyday technology. At the training course, the teachers received an introduction to how they can integrate the SimplyNano 2 learning workshop into their lessons. In a post run, they were able to try out the experiments with a "wow effect" on their own.
Tyndall effect in the smoke detector
The air-cushion-forming plant Salvinia molesta was enthusiastically examined or the adhesion of a mobile phone to the gecko pad was tested. A smoke detector was used to investigate the Tyndall effect. With little material effort, the SimplyNano 2 experiment kit can get pupils excited about exploratory learning. "Well structured", "very practice-oriented", "great material" and "a very successful course" were the feedbacks of the participants.
Half-time in the "Simply Nano 2 Thurgau" project
This training course was the second of a total of four courses in the canton of Thurgau. The remaining two course dates (07.06.23 and 28.06.23) also met with broad interest, but there are still free places available for interested teachers (https://simplynano.ch/events/categories/simplynano-projekt-tg/). The class sets of experiment kits can be taken away free of charge after the course.
