Nanomaterials in textiles - and how to handle them safely
Nanomaterials and nanotechnology are increasingly used in textile manufacturing and finishing. Occupational safety and health experts and employees of the textile industry now have a new E-learning tool at hand: the „Nanorama Textile“ (http://nano.dguv.de/nanorama/bgetem/, currently available in German only). The “Nanorama textile” offers users an entertaining way of gathering valuable information on applications and handling of nanomaterials in textile production.
The „Nanorama Textile“ is the fourth module of the German Social Accident Insurance's (DGUV) "Nanoramas". It was developed by the German Social Accident Insurance Institution for the energy, textile, electrical and media products sectors (BG ETEM) and The Innovation Society, St. Gallen. The "Nanorama Textile" combines six different work environments of the textile industry into a single digital 360° environment. By answering questions and reading information on protective measures, exposure and applications of nanomaterials, users learn how to handle nanomaterials safely. Subjects covered include gathering of information on the presence of nanomaterials in textiles, textile finishing, cleaning & maintenance, and storage.
