New „Nanorama Production“ now available in English

The new interactive tool on the safe handling of nanomaterials in production and processing is now publicly available in English for free at http://nano.dguv.de/nanorama/bgrci2/en/. The so-called “Nanorama Production” is the fifth e-learning tool on the safe handling of nanomaterials and was developed by the German Social Accident Insurance Institution for the raw materials and chemical industry (BG RCI) and the Innovation Society.

Safe production and processing of nanomaterials

(St. Gallen / Heidelberg). The new „Nanorama Production“ (http://nano.dguv.de/nanorama/bgrci2/en/) is the fifth interactive e-learning tool of the platform „Safe handling of nanomaterials“ (http://nano.dguv.de). It is an interactive self-learning and training tool on the safe production and processing of nanomaterials and enables employees to recognise tasks involving the handling of nanomaterials, to roughly estimate potential exposure, and to know the corresponding protective measures. The „Nanorama Production“ was developed on behalf of the German Social Accident Insurance Institution for the raw materials and chemical industry (BG RCI). The photo shooting took place at the facilities of the company Nanogate AG in Quierschied-Göttelborn (Germany).

The „Nanorama Production“ offers insights into six different work environments: 1. Production, 2. Dispersion of solid nanomaterial, 3. Production of suspensions using basket mills, 4. Processing of dispersions, 5. Storage, and 6. Analysis in the laboratory. It further deals with topics such as safe cleaning, aerosol measurements, explosion protection or industrial hygiene.

The realistic images of the panorama allow employees to immediately recognise tasks they regularly perform. By discovering the “Nanorama”, employees receive valuable information on nanomaterial health and safety aspects on-the-fly. The tool was designed for employees but may also be employed in education by HSE experts.

Nano-Platform „Safe Handling of Nanomaterials“

The Nano-Platform „Safe Handling of Nanomaterials“ of the DGUV is publicly available and offers up-to-date information, downloads and latest news on health and safety of nanomaterials. A total of five “Nanoramas” are now available on the platform. “Nanoramas” – a lexical blend of “Nano” and “Panorama”, – are novel, innovative 360°-E-learning modules in which the user enters a virtual space and moves around in it. By completing a “Nanorama”, users acquire knowledge in an entertaining manner. The „Nanoramas“  available on the platform include: „Nanorama Construction“ (handling and uses of nanomaterials in the construction industry), „Nanorama Laboratory“ (safe handling of nanomaterials in laboratories), „Nanorama Car Workshop“ (nanomaterials in the automotive sector) as well as the „Nanorama Textile“ (insight into six different work environments in textile processing). The „Nanorama Laboratory“ is available in English, too.
