Swiss Nano-Cube launches new nanotechnology training module

The Innovation Society has developed a new training module: "Nanotechnology in the Economy and Society". The development of said module was supported by the UBS Foundation for Social Issues and Education. It forms part of the Swiss Nano-Cube project. The module presents the economic and social importance of nanotechnologies and can be downloaded for free (in German).

"Nanotechnology in the Economy and Society"

The training module "Nanotechnology in the Economy and Society" was developed for students and teachers of the secondary levels 1 and 2. The module presents economic and social aspects of nanotechnology.

"Nanotechnology in the Economy and Society" is divided into three subitems. At the beginning, the basics of nanomaterials and nanotechnology are provided. The second deals with the economic importance of nanotechnology in Switzerland. The third part of the modules provides an overview of the politcal and social positions regarding nanotechnology.

By looking at the predicted economic potential for nanotechniques and nanoproducts, it becomes clear that both market volume and turnover figures grow at high rates and that prognoses for the evolution of the nano-market are positive. Yet, forecasts differ distinctly.

Application at Vocational and High Schools

The module can be used for general educational purposes (at vocational schools) as well as for interdisciplinary school lessons (at High Schools). It is available in German and can be downloaded for free at www.swissnanocube.ch. To date, a total of 9 educational modules are available for download – free of charge.
