Approval of zinc oxide in cosmetics

Zink oxide has been approved by the EU for its use in cosmetics.

After the approval of titan oxide in February 2016, Zinc oxide is the second nanodimensional UV-filter, which has been approved by the EU Cosmetics Regulations. Zinc oxide is used to reduce the amount of ultraviolet light penetrating into the skin by reflecting radiation into heat.  It will be allowed as UV-filters as long as its concentration does not exceed 25 percent and it is not applied in such a way that it could be inhaled by the end-user.

Potassium hydroxide (KOH) and trimethylbenzoyl disphenylphosphine oxide (TPO) have been approved in the same meeting agenda for their professional use for the removal or softener of calluses, respectively for their use as ingredients in nail modelling products.
